Hosea 13:9-11
“You are destroyed, Israel, because you are against Me, against your Helper. Where is your king, that he may save you? Where are your rulers in all your towns, of whom you said, 'Give me a king and princes’? So in My anger I gave you a king and, in My wrath, I took him away."
~ The Word of the Lord spoken through the Prophet Hosea, circa 753 BC
THE NORTHERN KINGDOM OF ISRAEL
931 BC - 722 BC
After the death of King Solomon (1), the United Monarchy of Israel (2) was torn into two separate kingdoms. This was due to Solomon's continued disobedience (3) to God (4) (1 Kings 11:1-43). Of the Twelve Tribes of Israel (5), ten tribes (Reuben, Simeon, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Manasseh and Ephraim) formed the Northern Kingdom of Israel (6). The remaining two tribes (Judah and Benjamin) formed the Southern Kingdom of Judah (7). The approximate year (8) of the division is 931 BC.
Shechem (9), Penuel (10), Tizrah (11) and Samaria (12) served as the capital city sequentially between 931 BC– 722 BC. All of Israel’s rulers were evil in the eyes of the Lord. They all followed in the underhanded footsteps of Jeroboam I. As a result, God finally withdrew His Hand of protection from them and raised up the Assyrians (13) to conquer them. Subsequently, after multiple invasions, the kingdom fell and was taken into exile in 722 BC (14) (1 Chronicles 5:26; 2 Kings 15:29, 17:3-6, 24, 18:9-12).

CHART SOURCES
Edwin R. Thiele, Ph. D., (1895-1986) was a missionary, church periodical editor, educator, and Biblical chronologist. He is best known for his influential book on the chronology of the Hebrew kingdom period, The Mysterious Numbers of the Hebrew Kings (a).
In the book, Dr. Thiele constructed a complete chronology of the Israelite Kings for the United Monarchy of Israel, Northern Kingdom of Israel and the Southern Kingdom of Judah.
While not embraced by all, Dr. Thiele's work is widely accepted as the most accurate chronology of its kind. However, there were still discrepancies, such as the reign of Hezekiah, 13th king of Judah. Dr. Thiele was unable to reconcile the dates of this monarch's rule, and reluctantly concluded that the ancient authors had made a mistake (c).
Fast forward to the 1990s. Dr. Leslie McFall (1944-2015), a former Fellow at Tyndale House in Cambridge, England, reexamined Dr. Thiele’s chronology and was successful at refining the dates included therein, without compromising the integrity of the Sacred Scriptures. The completed work, titled "A Translation Guide to the Chronological Data in Kings and Chronicles," (b) is attached to this webpage (see link) in its entirety as a 42 page PDF.
The chart offered herein is utilizing the tireless work of Dr. Thiele, later enhanced by Dr. McFall.
